Doing it Wrong, and Loving it

Ok, so the finale just ended and I wanted to throw a question out there that REALLY annoys me.

Did anyone else sit on the edge of their seat waiting for that BIG reveal, post “Avatar State” scene when the camera faded to white. I was SURE there was going to be a “bwahahahah you think you’ve won” scene…. but NOTHING.

We are introduced to Amon who is a terrific character, then suddenly we find out he’s not only a water bender, but he’s Tarrlok’s brother and a blood bender! Amazing twist - it’s terrific! Then 10 minutes later the entire revolution ends. Color me mildly disappointed. Although it was nice to see mustache man stick up for himself at the end, and the Tarrlok/Amon boat scene was the stuff of classic TV - I still felt like something was missing. How did the Tenzin and the family get captured? I was SURE there was going to be a big reveal of “bwahahah I was on your side by now I’m not! And I told Amon everything”… again… nothing. I guess it was explained by Asami’s dad monitoring all the transmissions and having planes…but… that seems kiiiiinda lame to me.

So now, after it’s all said and done, it was more like a mini-series than the first season of a dramatic TV show. It ended with everything wrapping up nicely - and the only real tension left is what poor Asami is going to do now that her man up and left her. 

Seriously - that’s it. Cause as far as I can tell - everyone is getting their bending back. Korra has all 4 elements, she’s even connected to the spirit realm. The city is saved and revolution put down. 

No joke, the only ones who didn’t get what they wanted were poor love struck Bolin and Asami. If they get together, we can just call them “settled for second besties”. 

So where’s the tension going into season 2? It will be like they are starting all over again. Sure, now we know the characters - but where’s the plot element FORCING me in front of my TV in however many months it takes to make a new season. It’s not there. 

I’m just not as drawn in as I was with the first season of the first series. 

Remember that? Aang became a freakin’ water monster and destroyed an entire fleet (along with the season 1 baddie). It was awesome - then we learn not only is Zuko still out there - BUT his much eviler sister is now in the game. BOOM - season end. It was like “YAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS!”

I don’t feel that at all. Sorry Team Korra - I’ll still watch, but you’ve got to impress me all over again come season 2.
