Doing it Wrong, and Loving it

Anonymous asked: Not the best place to ask (and it might sound stupid) but you seem like someone who has advice to give so here goes I've been out of school for 2 years and was unable to go to college at 18 due to some stuff beyond my control going on I actually have the grades to get in a good school should I go ahead and apply? Cause I feel 20(while still young) is a weird age to start school again and the fact that I want to be a physicist/engineer doesn't make it any easier Thanks in advance(not from US btw

Are you kidding me, it’s never too late to go to school - ESPECIALLY if you WANT to go. First things first, don’t let age fool you. In college, no one can tell anyone’s age anyway - unless you’re like one of those 80 year old dudes who is going to school to “reinvigorate” themselves. And more importantly, few people care. My general experience with the many campuses I’ve seen is that they are diverse - that’s what makes college/Uni exciting. Meeting new people who aren’t like you- AND meeting people who are, knowing you’re not the only one who likes ___________. I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world. I grew up in quite possibly the whitest town in America, and my freshmen year of college had me in a dorm floor with my Jewish roomie from Brooklyn, a Italian (from italy), a black dude (who looked like Denzel), a Romanian (who I think was in the mafia), a jock from the track team, 2 stoners in a ska band, my  Iraqi RA (Resident Advisor), and a dude so hairy we named him Chewbacca. And I never had more fun in my life. Like the U.N. up in there. 

I don’t know if it’ll be similar where you are, but I would assume the same thing applies for age and gender. 

In addition, I’ve also found that with age comes experience. It’s crazy what 2 or 3 or 5 years can teach a person about life, responsibility, and choices. Trust me when I say, if I could go back 10 years having learned all the life lessons I know now….

So any experience and maturity you have going into college, especially to become an engineer, is a plus.

Besides, chicks dig older dudes. So you got that too.
